june wood British artist June Wood studied art at Eastbourne College of Art and Design on the Sussex coast. She has experimented with a variety of mediums including charcoal and watercolour, but prefers to work with oil on canvas. June is a great admirer of the Impressionist painter Claude Monet, but has more recently become interested in abstract and contemporary art. June uses nature as her inspiration for her objective, abstracted canvases. She applies paint in thin layers, and the translucent properties of the paint allow small amounts of the underlying layers to show through, giving the paintings texture. Whether she is working on a large or small canvas, the June moves around the canvas to create the finished work. Whatever June is painting, abstract, still life or landscape, her own way of expression and her approach shows her intensity and joy of painting. June's canvases have featured in exhibitions in the UK including Eastbourne's Towner Art Gallery, London and Los Angeles. |
