floral paintings rachel pearce Rachel Pearce studied illustration at the University of Brighton, graduating in 1994. Since then she has embarked upon a successful career as an illustrator and painter working on projects for many large publishing houses including Penguin and Bloomsbury. Rachel's flower paintings are strongly influenced by scientific observational ideas and themes, and flowers in particular provide a rich source of expression. She says 'I paint from life with an almost scientific scrutiny, and I have a fascination with the human qualities of flowers. I aim to imbue each of these undulating forms with emotion and symbolism.' Rachel is also passionate about the process of painting, and she explores a variety of techniques in her work. She often combines thick, energetic applications of pigment with areas of fine layering and glazing to give a sense of depth to her floral paintings. She continues to exhibit her work around the UK. Her next exhibition of flower paintings with The Society of Botanical artists takes place at Central Hall Westminster, London from April the 20th to the 29th 2007.
