Georges Seurat Prints & Posters: When Georges Seurat's painting 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of the Grande Jatte' was first shown, it sparked indignation among the artists and critics of Paris. They were reacting to Seurat's new style of painting, 'Pointillisme', where dots of pure colour are applied to the canvas, leaving the mixing of the colours to be done by the retina of the eye. As much a scientist as a painter, Seurat created some fantastic works of art in his short lifetime, and you will find many of them here, along with works by Sisley, Signac and Vuillard.
