Oppy Wood, 1917, Evening by John Nash

In 1917 John Nash was commissioned by the British War Memorial Committee to produce a painting which would be part of a great memorial gallery. In response, Nash produced ‘Oppy Wood’ which depicts two soldiers surveying No Man’s Land for enemy activity. The wood has been reduced to a collection of tree stumps and the ground a mass of flooded shell holes which juxtapose with the untouched blue sky. This print is colour matched to the original and approved by the Imperial War Museum. Every purchase supports the work of the museum.
