Pendine Sands in Carmarthenshire is where Sir Malcolm Campbell broke the land speed record in the legendary car Blue Bird. Sir Donald made three record attempts in total - the quickest in Blue Bird in February 1927 where he reached 174.22mph. The iconic Bluebird has been a recurring theme for Jack Vettriano and this painting captures a moment during one of those record-breaking speed trials.
