Sybil Andrews 'The New Cable' Colour linocut was made in 1931 and also goes by the title ‘The Giant Cable’. As in so many of the Grosvenor School prints, depictions of the human figure are heavily stylized and anonymous. This is in tune with their democratic ideals: the anonymity a symbol of egalitarian universality. Here the abstraction allows for a repetition of the circular form along the cable length. It also enhances a sense of collective commitment: these are men at work as a group, working together on their joint project. This is a wonderful metaphor for collective endeavour. This popular Andrews lino-cut fine art print 'The New Cable' is produced in a limited edition of 850.
