‘Rye Marshes, East Sussex’ by Paul Nash was originally an oil painting on canvas painted in 1932. It has Nash's trademark graphic style and appealing colours of ochre, blue and orange. It was commissioned by Jack Beddington, publicity director for the oil company Shell, a big supporter of up-and-coming artists during the 1930’s. The painting was used by Shell in their promotional posters bearing the text ‘Everywhere you Go / You can be sure of Shell’. It depicts the scene of the scenic fishing harbour in Rye near Hastings, Sussex with stylised sailing boats progressing along the river.
Other popular Limited Edition Paul Nash art prints include seascape 'Shore' and landscapes 'Pillar and Moon', 'Wood on the Downs' all of which are available from The Fine Art Company.
