Perhaps we are biased because like us, Eric Ravilious (1903 - 1942) is East Sussex born and bred but he remains one of our best-loved artists here at The Fine Art Company.
Ravilious was a versatile artist producing in his tragically brief lifetime wood engravings, book illustrations, and designs for posters and ceramics. However, it is for his iconic water colour paintings of the South Downs and the English countryside that he has become best known. The Fine Art Company offers a range of beautifully produced Limited Edition Eric Ravilious Art Prints featuring many of his best loved paintings. These include 'Westbury Horse' and 'Train Landscape' (which work well as a pair), 'Newhaven Harbour', 'Chalk Paths' and plus brand new additions to the range 'Beachy Head' and 'Belle Tout Lighthouse'.
Below you'll see Eric's depiction of Newhaven Harbour on the South Coast portrayed in his immediately recognisable style. The harbour wall appears to curve towards the viewer as a ship pulls into the harbour. In the foreground stands a lighthouse. Lighthouses seem to provide a source of fascination to Ravilious as it's a theme he returns to often in his watercolours. We also have his 'Belle Tout' Lighthouse print which stands on the Seven Sisters cliffs between Birling Gap and Beachy Head - a brand new addition to our collection.

If you are a fan of the watercolour paintings of Eric Ravilious you might also like the work of fellow East Sussex painter Michael Embden. Like Ravilious, artist Michael Embden painted atmospheric scenes of the South Downs around Eastbourne, Alfriston, Lewes and Brighton including this stunning fine art print entitled 'Chalk Paths'.
